Accra, Ghana – A groundbreaking report launched at the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa’s (BADEA) 50th Anniversary celebration has outlined a roadmap for unlocking Africa’s vast export potential. The Africa Export Competitiveness Report (AEC), a joint initiative by BADEA, the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF), Shift Impact Africa, the Institute for Competitiveness Africa, and the Institute for Competitiveness India, provides a comprehensive analysis of 30 African countries.

The report underscores the urgent need for African-led solutions to address the continent’s unique challenges. By adopting a Shared Value business model, businesses can create both economic growth and social impact, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“This report is a critical tool for policymakers, businesses, and development partners to understand the complexities of Africa’s export landscape,” said Mr. Mamadou Biteye, Executive Secretary of ACBF. “By investing in infrastructure, skills development, and regulatory reforms, we can enhance Africa’s competitiveness on the global stage.”

The AEC introduces the Africa Export Competitiveness Index, a data-driven benchmark to measure the export performance of African nations. This index, based on Professor Michael Porter’s competitiveness framework, offers a holistic view of the continent’s export ecosystem.

H.E. Dr. Sidi Ould TAH, President of BADEA, emphasized the pivotal role of the private sector and trade in driving development. “By fostering intra-African trade and increasing exports, we can create jobs, reduce poverty, and build resilient economies,” he stated.

The report’s findings and recommendations are set to inform tailored strategies for countries to boost their export capabilities. As Africa strives to diversify its economies and reduce reliance on commodities, the AEC provides a valuable blueprint for achieving these goals.
