Recently interviewed by Africa Talks Business, Hassan Natha shared insights into his journey of building a flourishing social media business that serves as a dynamic advertising hub for companies looking to connect with thousands of engaged followers.
Tell us more about how your company’s journey started:
I love being creative and I wasn’t able to express that to its potential at school or university.
I started off on Twitter and TikTok where I made jokes about movies, sports and daily life.
I’m known as ‘Sir Alex FergHassan’ and I accumulated over 100 000 followers across various accounts.
I’ve collaborated with brands such as Formula E, BBC Africa, Philips, Telkom, Radisson Hotels, Gift of the Givers, Akamah Estate and Travinity Travels.
I decided to formalise my hobby into a social media agency called the illumiNatha and a charity organisation called Heroic Hands. I went from the tweets to the spreadsheets.

What impact does the company hope to make in Africa?
The illumiNatha aims to give exposure to African start-ups, small businesses, informal businesses and non-profit organisations. Many of them have minimal or no social media presence.
We know budgets are tight and marketing can be an afterthought, so we tailor our offerings to suit them.
We want to connect them with more clients and build their network further.
Our charity arm, Heroic Hands, aims to assist underprivileged students with food, clothing, books and phones. We established a network of volunteers online that contributes these items.
We have partnerships with NPO’s such as the Hanover Park Cricket Club, Cape Flats Sports Academy, CTIEC and Madinah Instiute that assists us with distribution
How is the company unique from competition?
Authenticity. This company grew naturally from being just a hobby. The social media accounts I built for myself proves what I can offer. What I have achieved for myself, I want to achieve for others. Everything I learnt about social media is from practical experience. I’ve lived it.
What advice would you give to someone in the same industry?
‘No one gives it to you. You have to take it’. Be aggressive and persistent. Chase your clients.
Creativity is your best tool. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things. Build relationships. Give out freebies and discounts. Go the extra mile and be flexible.
