Ruan exclusively tells Africa Talks Business about their impact in the rideshare market using branded ad campaigns and creating job opportunities at the same time.
Tell us more about you, and the story behind Eazy Ads?
“Sure, I’m excited to share with you the story of EazyAds. My name is Ruan Linde Cillié and I’m the founder of EazyAds. I have always been passionate about entrepreneurship and innovation, and I believe that every business has the potential to create a positive impact on society. After working within in the corporate branding environment, I saw an opportunity to tap into the rapidly growing rideshare market and provide value within the advertising sector in South Africa and beyond. One afternoon in a coffee shop, a number of Rideshare (e-hailing) vehicles dropped off a few passengers. My branding background meant that I saw prime advertising space, as opposed to just a vehicle. The increasing rise of APP based on demand rideshare services has created a new class of vehicles that garner high exposure in front of target audiences. This is how EazyAds was born. We are a dynamic marketing agency that specializes in launching successful ad campaigns on rideshare vehicles, backed by our proprietary campaign measurement tech, allowing brands and businesses to reach a large and diverse audience through a medium that has the proven highest recall rate.”
What kind of impact do you feel EazyAds is making on society?
“At EazyAds, we believe that advertising can be a powerful tool for driving positive change in society. Our innovative approach to advertising not only helps brand and businesses to grow but also contributes to the growth and development of the local economy. By promoting businesses, brands and their products and services, we are supporting job creation and boosting entrepreneurship, which are critical components of sustainable economic development. Over and above the memorable exposure this creates for Brands, a large percentage of the advertising revenue goes back into the pockets of these drivers (micro entrepreneurs), monetizing their daily commute through our platform.”
What about the marketing sector do you enjoy?
“I find the fast-paced and ever-changing nature of the industry incredibly exciting. The marketing sector is constantly evolving, with new technologies and trends emerging all the time, which means that there is always something new to learn and explore. What I enjoy most about the marketing sector is the creative aspect of it. Coming up with new and innovative ideas that can help businesses to stand out in a crowded marketplace is both challenging and rewarding. I also enjoy the analytical side of marketing, where we can measure the success of our campaigns and use data to make informed decisions about future marketing strategies.”
What does success mean to you?
“To me, success means achieving your goals and creating value that is truly meaningful and impactful. In the context of EazyAds, success means launching effective and targeted advertising campaigns that help businesses to grow and contribute to the local economy, and helping everyday drivers monetize their commute. However, success is not just about achieving financial targets or business goals. It’s also about creating a positive work environment for our team, fostering strong relationships with our clients, and making a difference in the community.”
What aspect of being a business owner do you enjoy the most?
“As my mentor would say Entrepreneurship is not, as they often tell us, a marathon. It’s more like 10 marathons one after another – and then another 10! And so on. The journey is relentless and, although there are moments of respite and success along the way, they’re mostly short-lived and threatened by an ever-changing internal and external environment. As a business owner, I enjoy the autonomy and flexibility, I have the freedom to make decisions and pursue new opportunities without having to navigate through corporate hierarchies or bureaucracy to bring it to life. I also enjoy the sense of responsibility that comes with being a business owner. I am responsible for the success of my company and the well-being of my team, which motivates me to work hard and make the best decisions possible.”
What advice would you provide to someone who would like to start their own business?
“To provide the blunt truth, starting your own business should come with a warning label. “Starting your own business will likely lead to loss of money; loss of family; loss of friends; loss of fun” and that is the truth for most entrepreneurs. It won’t always be easy, as entrepreneurship is often overly glamorized, and the real reality is 70 – 80% of business fail within the first 5-year period. it is important for aspiring entrepreneurs to understand the risks and potential sacrifices involved. My advice to anyone who wants to start their own business is to believe in yourself and your idea, and be prepared to put in the time and effort to make it happen. Actively seek mentors and intellectual sparring partners that can challenge your own assumptions will assist a great deal. it is also crucial to have a clear vision, perseverance, and a willingness to learn and adapt to overcome the obstacles that may come along the way. Taking Calculated risks, with dedication and a willingness to learn and adapt, anything is possible.
As Jim Rohn eloquently put it: If you are not willing to risk the unusual, you will have to settle for the ordinary.”
